JoAnn L. Robinson, 79, of Soda Springs, peacefully returned to her loving Father in Heaven on December, 3 2012, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. JoAnn was born January 24, 1933, to Dawn and Elizabeth (Moyes) Lauritzen in Hurricane, Utah. The family lived in Short Creek, Arizona until returning to Hurricane, which is where JoAnn attended and graduated from Hurricane High School. She moved to Provo, Utah in 1951 to attend Brigham Young University. She soon met and fell in love with her sweetheart, "Big John Robinson," and the couple was married and sealed for time and all eternity in the St. George, Utah temple. JoAnn and John both worked and pursued their educations. They had three children- David, Scott, and Janet- while working to meet their goals. JoAnn graduated from Utah State University in 1963, and in the fall of the same year, she got her first teaching opportunity at Provo Elementary. Teaching would ultimately be one of "Mrs. Robinson's" greatest joys in life. She loved her students, was passionate, and found much joy in teaching. She taught in the Salt Lake City, Utah, Soda Springs and Bear Lake, Idaho, and Gallup, New Mexico school districts before retiring in 1998. After retiring, John and JoAnn faithfully served an LDS mission in Tuba City, Arizona from 1998 to 2000. Again, JoAnn was able to bless young minds as she fulfilled her calling as a Seminary instructor. John and JoAnn returned to Soda Springs in the summer of 2000. JoAnn loved Soda Springs and had developed many friendships. She was a member of the 4th Ward and served diligently in many callings. Grandma loved to spend time with her family. She found joy in being involved in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren's lives. Grandma was supportive in all we chose to pursue; whether it be sports, music, missionary work, or education. Her enthusiasm encouraged us and shaped the people we are today. JoAnn was talented at many things, but her exceptional quilting skills will remain her legacy to her family and friends. She completed numerous, lovely quilts that her children love and will always cherish. She won many ribbons at the Caribou County Fair for her work. JoAnn loved to read, write in her journal, sew, do needle work, line dance at the senior citizen center, cook, and take walks to Hooper Springs with John. JoAnn is survived by her husband, John Melvin Robinson of Soda Springs; three children, David (LaNae) Robinson of Thatcher, Idaho; Scott (Shirley) Robinson of Evanston, Wyoming; and Janet (Chuck) Townsend of Georgetown, Texas. She is also survived by four siblings, Ted Laurtizen, Arthur Laurtizen, Karl Laurtizen, and Hope Dickson. JoAnn enjoyed nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard Laurtizen. Funeral services will be held at the Hooper LDS church in Soda Springs, Idaho on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 11:00am. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30-10:30am. A Friday viewing will also be held at the Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs from 7-8pm. Burial will follow in the Freedom, Wyoming Cemetery. The family wishes to offer a special thanks to Tim and Mary Johnson, Brenda Cellan, and Roxann Muir. What special, devoted friends they have been to John and JoAnn. How appropriate that they were present when JoAnn took her final breath. Mrs. Robinson will be loved and missed by all who knew her.
