Joseph "Joe" John Valentine, 78; of Soda Springs passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010 at his home.
Joe was born on October 22, 1931 in Oakley, Wyoming to Joseph John and Mary Agnes Glass Valentine.
He lived in Oakley until his family moved to Conda, Idaho in 1941. He graduated from Soda Springs High School.
Joe served his country in the U.S Navy from 1950 to 1954. He was a gunner's mate on the destroyer USS Brush. Joe was awarded the purple heart for injures received when his gun mount was hit by enemy fire off the coast of Korea.
He married Janice Finch. They had four children. They were later divorced.
Joe worked for Monsanto, then owned and operated "Joe's Texaco Service Station". He was employed with Mark III Inc. for 25 years retiring in 1996.
He married Dixie Panter Clegg in 1983.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Joe was an avid fisherman and hunter until the mountains became too steep and the walk to the river too far.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie, one daughter and two sons, Lisa and Wade Westover, Fallon, NV: David and Connie Valentine, Hurricane, UT; Jeffery and Jamie Valentine, Montpelier, ID; and ten grandchildren, Christopher and Tyler Westover, Tiffany, Chance, Megan, Jasmine, James, Jacob, Darcy and Ashley Valentine, two step-sons, Scott and Lu Ann Clegg, Draper, UT, Wayne and Dorilee Clegg, Soda Springs, ID; and five step-grandchildren, Melina, Elise, Megan, Danielle and Tanner Clegg, one sister Betty and Marvine Watkins, Soda Springs, ID. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, John Petek, and one son Jonathan Valentine and one sister Margie Whitworth.
At Joe's request a grave side service was held on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Noon at the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs.
