Our mother passed away at her home on September 12, 2017, surrounded by her family.
Joyce was born on August 6, 1927 in Hatch, Idaho to A. Nelson Hogan and Elizabeth M. Lloyd. Mom was one of five children and spent her early years raised on a large cattle ranch located in Chesterfield, Idaho.
Joyce graduated from North Gem High School. After graduation, mom attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho serving as secretary for the college.
While attending Ricks College, mom was set up on blind date where she met George H. Bowles. Dad had just returned from serving in WWII. They continued their communication as George was sent to Brazil where he served a 2-1/2 year LDS mission and Joyce continued her education in Provo, Utah.
After George returned from serving a mission, they were married in the Idaho Falls temple on April 27, 1949, starting their life together working on grandpa Hogan's ranch. They later purchased a dairy farm located in Lago, Idaho and moved their family in May of 1969 where they enjoyed 44 years of their 62 years together.
Mom worked side by side dad in raising seven children. Joyce was a LeVoy's Clothing consultant for many years which she absolutely loved as she met many wonderful friends. After dad's passing on March 12, 2011, mom stayed in Idaho for a year arranging for the sale of the family farm. Mom moved to North Logan Town Villa's where she lived close to her children. Joyce enjoyed living in the Villa's and made several wonderful new friends.
Joyce's hobbies and interests included canning which she enjoyed entering in the county fair yearly and winning several blue ribbons. Mom was a very meticulous homemaker and you could usually find her with a vacuum cleaner in her hand. She wrote a book about her life memories about growing up on the ranch in Chesterfield, Idaho. She also loved to read good books and did beautiful embroidery handwork.
Mom leaves her legacy to her children as follows: Lonna (Blaine) Anderson, Rex (Pattie) Bowles, Val Kay (Sandy) Bowles, Randy Bowles, Lorri (Kurt) Fullmer, Trudy Bowles, Shaun (Dianna) Bowles, with 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
