Obituary

June Orr Christensen, 93, of Grace, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Spring Creek Living Center in Soda Springs, Idaho.

June was born November 2, 1916, in Orton, Alberta Canada, the second child of nine children, to William Ernest and Margaret Barton Taylor Orr. She grew up in Orton and upon high school graduation, went to Calgary where she attended the Calgary Normal School, graduating with a teaching certificate to come back to teach in Orton.

Having a student loan to repay, when a better paying job was offered in Ottawa, Canada, she spent the next few years working in the government offices. It was at this time that she met a missionary, Kenneth Andersen Christensen. After his service, they began their courtship through the mail. They married May 11, 1939 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. He brought her back to the family farm where they lived and raised their family.

She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities in the church auxillaries.

After selling the family farm in 1977 to their son, Bart, they moved to Nampa, Idaho, living there until 1985, when they were called to serve a mission to Calgary, Canada. At completion of their mission, they moved back to Grace where they spent the remainder of their lives. Kenneth passed away January 7, 2000.

June loved to clean, cook and sew. No one ever went away hungry from her home. She crocheted many afghans and made quilts for her children and grandchildren. Nothing made her more happy than to receive visits from her family and friends.

June is survived by two sons and one daughter, Wynn and Darla Christensen, Iona, Id., Karen and Larry Allen, Nampa, Id., and Bart and Cherie Christensen, Grace. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren and 3 sisters, Thelma Redmond, Elaine Orr and Bessie Dudley, all of Canada. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Kenneth, a daughter, Margaret Peterson, five brothers, a grandson, David Peterson and a great-granddaughter, Allie Christensen.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and caregivers of Mother over the past few years. Thank you to all the family and friends that took time to visit her. Your kindness and help to her has been greatly appreciated.

Services were held on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at the Grace LDS Stake Center. Burial was in the Central Cemetery.
