Karleen Loveland Gunnell, 80, of Soda Springs passed away on Friday, February 12, 2016 at her home.
She was born September 6, 1935 in Pocatello, Idaho the daughter of Chester and Sara Elimina Neeser Loveland.
Karleen lived in Blackfoot, ID for her first thirteen years and then her family moved to Chubbuck and Hawthorne for the rest of her youth. She graduated from Pocatello High School and then attended Idaho State University where she graduated with a Home Economics Degree.
She married Dean E. Gunnell on July 14, 1961 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They resided in Soda Springs where they have lived for over 54 years together.
Karleen was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and has held various calling but of course thoroughly enjoyed being in Home Making through the Relief Society. She always wanted to attend Sunday services throughout her entire life.
After college she worked for the Caribou County Extension Staff as the Extension Home Agent for eight years. She then went back to work in 1968 at the Caribou Memorial Hospital where she worked as the Dietary Director for 38 Years. She served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Caribou County Hospital Foundation for 11 years. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Lava Hot Springs Foundation for 18 years of dedicated service. She loved being on these two boards. She also served the Republican Party for Caribou County for many years. She believed in being involved in Politics to help preserve the freedoms we enjoy in America.
Karleen also loved to cook and make candy. She helped start the Soda Springs Homemakers Club. She was also a judge for many years for county and state fairs.
She is survived by her husband Dean E. Gunnell of Soda Springs, ID, two sons, Kent and Christine Gunnell of Burley, ID, Bruce Gunnell of Soda Springs, ID, a step-son, Roy and Rosemary Gunnell of St. George, UT, and a step-daughter, Cindy and Ellis Butterfield of West Valley City, UT. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, a twin brother Karl and Peggy Loveland of Fort Hall, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Joy McNabb.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Noon at the Soda Springs 4th Ward Chapel (281 East Hooper Ave.). The family will visit with friends from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Church prior to services. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs.
The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to her caregivers Larie Hooley, Brenda Cellan, Sandra Allred, and Cleide Francom for their kind and diligent service to our mother, which made it possible for her stay in her home.
