IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Keith Malcolm
Clegg
May 15, 1935 – October 30, 2020
Keith Malcolm Clegg passed away early Friday morning on October 30, 2020 at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, Idaho after being admitted earlier in the week for pneumonia.
Keith was born on May 15, 1935 to Joseph Clegg and Alice Schmeer at his home in Bench, near Grace, Idaho. His parents were surprised to find out that he would be one of two babies born that day. He and his twin sister were the youngest of six kids.
Keith had many happy memories of growing up on the family farm and working with his dad. After he graduated from Grace High School in 1953, he participated in ROTC while he attended the University of Idaho in Moscow for one year. He also completed a diesel mechanics course in Salt Lake City, Utah, but chose to come back to farm with his dad.
In 1957, Keith married Dixie Panter and eventually became a father to two sons.
After his first marriage ended in divorce, Keith was set up on a blind date with widow, Darlene Bailey Godfrey, who already had two daughters of her own. It seemed to be a perfect match! Keith and Darlene were soon married on March 15, 1967. They chose to settle in Soda Springs, Idaho. Over the next several years, they had four more children together, creating a blended family of eight kids. Keith and Darlene celebrated their 50 th Wedding Anniversary in March of 2017.
While raising his family, Keith was a successful farmer. He owned land in Grays Lake and Grace, Idaho, where he mostly raised barley. He also took over the "home place," where he was born. There, he raised hay and barley. In addition to farming, Keith raised cattle for several years until the market declined.
After spending most of their lifetime in Caribou County, in November of 2019, Keith and Darlene chose to move to Boise, Idaho into an independent living apartment at MorningStar.
Throughout his lifetime, Keith was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in a variety of callings. We feel very blessed that he was able to be with us for 85 years.
Keith is survived by his wife, Darlene Clegg, two sons-Scott (LuAnn) and Wayne (Dori), and five daughters- Lori Sue Godfrey, Shauna Clegg, Jennifer Smith (Corey), Connie Buree' (Tony), and Sara Johnson (Jim), and one brother-Maurice. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Keith was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, and one daughter-Brenda Lee Godfrey.
Services will be held at Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs, Idaho on Monday, November 2 with a viewing at 10:00am followed by a funeral at 11:00. Due to the current pandemic, attendance at the viewing and funeral are limited to those who have been invited.
Following the services, there will be a small graveside gathering at the Grace Cemetery. Masks and physical distancing will be required.
