Kent has had a varied and interesting life allowing him to live in many places. He was born in Idaho Falls, ID. After brief stops in Pocatello, ID, SLC, UT, Tenabo, NV, and Berkley, CA, (remember, this was the depression), the family moved to South Africa in 1938 where he spent his 8th birthday on board the ship. While there he lived in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Pofader, and learned to speak Afrikaans fluently. At the close of WWII his family returned to the states on a freighter with passenger accommodations. Owing to the numerous ports of call, they arrived in Baltimore, MD three months later. Kent attending high school in Salem, UT, and Butte, MT, and graduated two weeks after turning 17. That fall, he enrolled in USAC in Logan, UT. Where he graduated with a degree in Animal Husbandry. While there he met his future wife and he and Gloria were married.
After graduation, they moved to Austin, MN. Kent was employed by Hormel as a cattle buyer. While there, in January 1952, he was called into the army as a 2nd LT to serve in the Korean War. He was stationed at Fort Lee, VA. His wife and new baby daughter, Connie, joined him there until he was deployed to Korea in November 1952. Released from active duty as a 1st LT in August 1953, he returned to back to his family and employment in Austin, MN. In May of 1954 he was transferred to Fremont, NE where his son Scott was born. In early 1959 he was transferred to Harlan, IA where his second son, Bradley, was born. In October of 1959, he was offered a position with a new company in Troy, OH where their son Michael was born. There he managed the beef division. When Morrell took control of this plant they transferred him to El Paso, TX in September of 1963. In September of 1968 he was offered a position as President of Pinkney Packing Co. in Amarillo, TX where he also served on the Board of Directors of Western Beef, Inc. Because of his experience in the meat industry, he was sought out by Dubuque Packing Co. to open a facility in Wichita, KS in late 1969. This is where their last son, Christopher, was born.
When the company sought to transfer him again, he said "not again" and purchased a purchased an egg processing plant in nearby Newton, KS where they processed over 300,000 eggs per day. He later sold that business and purchased a franchise with Barter Systems, Inc. Kent later served as a regional director for Barter Systems International and moved back to El Paso where the family felt deep connections. While there, his best friend persuaded him to join Romney Implement Co. as Vice President.
He finally decided to retire in November of 1996 and moved to Logan, UT where they were called as a mission president for the LDS church to serve in the Philippines Bacolod Mission from July 1997 to July 2000. Upon their return home, they lived in Logan, UT and Winston, NM, finally settling in Soda Springs, ID. It was here that he was approached to drive for PRT as a service to the elderly and disabled, something he loved to do. He even loved to take the kids from Soda to the pool in Lava during the summer. It was supposed to be a part-time job of about 20 hours a week. This soon escalated into a sometimes 40 plus hour a week job. Kent kept after it for 10 years, and in the end he was older than all the seniors he was taking care of. Not one to let the grass grow under his feet, Kent then took on the job of doing Meals on Wheels until the time came that his health simply prohibited him from driving. Even then it was a fight to keep him at home.
Always active in church callings, Kent served in almost every possible calling, including twice as a Bishop, three times on the High Council, counselor in stake presidency, Stake President, Regional Welfare Director, Regional Representative and Mission President.
He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Gloria, his children Connie Stevens (Floyd). Scott Evans (Christie), Bradley Evans (Sheri), Michael Evans (Charlene) and Christopher Evans, and sister, Mary Fell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Goulden and Mary Golda Evans, his two brothers, Harvey and Richard Evans and his sister Kathryn Hunt.
