Obituary

LaMonte Grant Mickelsen, 79, of Bancroft, Idaho, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2014, at his home surrounded by family.

LaMonte was born in Bancroft, ID to Leland and Grace Grant Mickelsen.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a mission in Eastern Canada, and in various other positions including High Council, Bishop of a Singles Ward, Stake Clerk and Executive Secretary.

LaMonte married Pearl Mathews on December 29, 1964, in the Logan LDS Temple.

As an elementary school teacher for 40 years in Utah and Idaho, he influenced hundreds of children. He was a member of NEA, UEA and IEA and chairman of the Murray School Credit Union. He returned to Bancroft where he contributed to the community as a member of the Lions Club, the North Gem Booster Club, the North Gem Building Committee and NGVDC (served as Chairman). After he retired he was a substitute teacher for the county schools where he continued to impact the lives of students.

LaMonte was an avid sports fan, enjoyed fishing, gardening, and following North Gem Students' sports and activities. He also served his country in the Army from 1957-1963.

He is survived by his wife Pearl, and one son and two daughters, Mark (Gina) Mickelsen of Kaysville, UT, Michelle (Michael) Day of Greer, SC, Marcia (Tim) Stewart of Falls Church, VA. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, two brothers, George (Karen) Mickelsen of Pocatello, ID, Adrian (Virginia) Mickelsen of Boise, ID, three sisters, Erma Banks and DeLila Simons of Chesterfield, ID, Ireta Mickelsen of Bancroft, ID. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Marva Mickelsen, two brothers, Charles Mickelsen, Bob Mickelsen, sisters-in-law Ila Mickelsen and Dorothy Mickelsen, and two brothers-in-law Floyd Banks and Joel Simons.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at noon at the Bancroft LDS Chapel. The family will visit with friends on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Church and also on Saturday from 10-11:30 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Chesterfield Cemetery.
