Obituary

Leona LaPriel Johnson Allred, 88, of Soda Springs, Idaho, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2015 in Pocatello, Idaho. She was born on July 20, 1927 at the break of day at the home of her parents, the youngest daughter of Nels Leo and Nellie VandenAkker Johnson. LaPriel graduated from Grace High School in May of 1946. After her graduation she went to Salt Lake City that fall and attended the Excelses Beauty School and graduated in 1947. She apprenticed for her Mother for one year and passed both her Utah and Idaho State examinations. LaPriel opened her own beauty shop in Soda Springs on March 17, 1948 and continued making her "ladies" beautiful until 2003. LaPriel married Richard Keith Allred on February 15, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on January 7, 2000. She was member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had many callings which she enjoyed. LaPriel will always be remembered for being involved in any activity her girls were in, including their room mother for school or Brownie Scout Leader. She was very creative and could turn anything into a work of art. Her girls were very blessed having their personal hairdresser, seamstress, chef, body guard and cheerleader right at home. LaPriel made every holiday magical for her family. Christmas was a glow with her handmade decorations in the yard and yummy food on the table. Her girls were never able to get her to admit that she was that scary witch that always showed up at the school Halloween party but she did admit to being Santa's helper since she was caught sewing Barbie clothes into the wee hours of the morning on Christmas Eve. LaPriel loved attending her grandchildren's activities and sporting events even if it meant sitting in a snowstorm to watch a ballgame. LaPriel is survived by her three daughters, Molly Lee Swenson of Soda Springs, ID, Jan Dee and Max Shaffer of Inkom, ID, Valerie Sue Allred of Blackfoot, ID. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister Katherine Eschler, brother Dale Johnson and man aunts and uncles. Services will be held on Friday, November 6, 2015 at Noon at the Soda Springs Stake Center (290 South 3rd West). Family will visit friends on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home and Friday 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs.
