LaVell was born on August 17, 1940 in Montpelier, Idaho to Joseph Benjamin and MaryAnn (Windley) Lewis.
His family lived in Dingle, ID for a few years and then moved to Montpelier where he attended school. In 1954 LaVell was taken in by his Aunt Norma and Uncle Jack as one of their own and they finished raising him. LaVell chose to spend his time working side by side with his uncle Jack at Hubbard's farm in Niter, ID. He worked there until he was 17 years old. He moved to Soda Springs, ID and met his first wife, Nannette Evans. They were married on June 17, 1961. Together they had two children, SueAnn Turner and Lynn Lewis. LaVell and Nannette were later divorced. LaVell worked for the City of Soda Springs and later he worked for Union Pacific Railroad.
LaVell moved to Grace, ID and started to work at the Jay Turner Ranch. He spent his time off at Turner's Cafe and the Grace Lounge. During this time he met the love of his life, Dottie Roholt. To this union, their daughter Angie was born and he gained two step-sons Joe and Jim Roholt.
LaVell would spend time helping Dottie at the lounge so she wouldn't have to be alone after closing. LaVell and Dottie were married on June 4, 1989 in Elko, NV. Together, they enjoyed camping, cooking, and playing pool together. LaVell loved his horses and cowboying, leather working and sightseeing. He enjoyed driving around the valley in his truck and seeing what everyone was doing.
LaVell went to work for Parson's Ready Mix and was with them for over 20 years. After retiring he spent his time driving trucks for Lloyd Farms in Grace.
LaVell is survived by his daughters, SueAnn Turner and Angie Bower and his step-sons, Joe Roholt and Jim (Diane) Roholt and his daughter-in-law, Anna Lewis. He is also survived by his brother, Donneil Lewis and a sister, RaeDell Kilstrom and 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
