Obituary

Leith Ray Somsen, 87, left this earthly life Saturday, November 2, 2013 in Soda Springs, Idaho. He was born June 26, 1926 on Williamsburg (Wayan) in the south end of the Grays Lake Valley of Idaho. He was the son of the late Garrett and Mattie Layland Somsen. He was raised with 3 brothers, Earl, Frank and Robert (Bob) and sister Elaine Stoor. He was a lifetime resident of Wayan, except for 2 years of Army service, 30 some years during springs calving season in Raft River, ID and the last 12 years in Soda Springs during the winter months. He graduated from Soda Springs High as a salutatorian and attended Utah State University. Leith married Virijean Stoor on December 9, 1951. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They rarely spent any time apart in their nearly 62 years together. He had been his wifes caregiver for many years. He loved living in the Grays Lake Valley and the people there. He was active in cattle ranching all his life and loved his cattle, horses and dogs. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed their visits and time together. He is survived by his wife , Virijean of Wayan, ID, and one daughter and two sons, Connie and Jerry Lakey of Soda Springs, ID, Steven L. and Louise Somsen of Wayan and Raft River, ID, W. Randy and Cherese Somsen of Rexburg, ID. He is grandpa of 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Dianne Somsen, Joan Somsen, Darlene Davis, Linda Stoor, Ila Rae and Ray VanVleet, brother-in-law. He was preceded in death by his siblings, sister-in-law Ree Somsen, brothers-in-law Budd Stoor, Ralph Stoor and JL Davis. Services will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Hooper LDS Chapel (281 E. Hooper Ave.). The family will visit with friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home and on Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church prior to services. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the American Heart Association. Listen to service:
