Obituary

Leon G. Rindlisbaker 73, of Bancroft, passed away February 27, 2019 at his home in Lund, Idaho. He was born on January 20, 1946 in Soda Springs, Idaho to James Russell and Lois Gilbert Rindlisbaker. He was the youngest of four children raised on the farm that his grandfather homesteaded. He attended school in Bancroft, and graduated from North Gem High School in 1964. That fall, he attended Weber State University on a basketball scholarship, where he played basketball for Dick Motta and Phil Johnson, before serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Austria. Following his mission, he married Candace May Garbett in the Logan Temple on May 31, 1968, and they moved to Pocatello to attend ISU. While at ISU, he served as counselor to Bishop Lowell A. Nelson in a student ward. Leon graduated from ISU with a business degree and a secondary teaching certificate. Even though he had his degree, he loved farming, and returned to Lund to farm with his father, and while there, he served as a counselor to Bishop Gerald Tolman. He later served on the High Council in the Soda Springs Stake, was an EMT for several years and was a member of the North Gem School Board. In 1985, he started his teaching career at North Gem High School, where he taught business classes and German, and served as the yearbook and newspaper advisor, the athletic director, and the secondary administrator. He spent sixteen years as head girls' basketball coach, and coached football for seven years. During his career, he was named Region Five coach of the year eight times, as well as District 149 Teacher of the Year. His most memorable career moments were those spent helping students achieve their potential, and watching the character that is built through his student's participation in interscholastic activities.
He truly loved people, and had an astounding influence for good on those around him, especially the youth. He had a great sense of humor, and loved to tease people, which is one way that he let you know that he loved you. Several years after his retirement from education, he was called to serve as Bishop of the Bancroft Ward at age sixty-five, and served in that position for six years.
Leon is survived by his wife of fifty years, Candace Rindlisbaker, his two children, Richelle (Tyson) Gollaher of West Point, Utah, and Shad (Michalene) Rindlisbaker of Lund, Idaho. He is also survived by one brother, Terry (MarJean) Rindlisbaker, one sister Geniel (Harold) Rigby, and ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Russell Jr, and three nephews: Bart, Kip, and Peyton Rindlisbaker.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 at noon in the Bancroft LDS Church. The family will visit with friends on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Bancroft LDS Church, and on Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 at the church prior to services. Burial will be in the Lund Cemetery.
