Obituary

Marie Thomas Keele, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on February 22, 1943 to Max and Verda Thomas.  Marie returned to the arms of her Savior on June 8, 2020.

Marie was the second of five children, born into the Max and Verda Thomas family of Menan, Idaho. In childhood, Marie was known for her tap-dancing skills, performing at numerous county fairs throughout the region.  She grew up on the family farm and enjoyed a happy childhood. Following her graduation from Rigby High School, Marie attended Ricks College and pursued a degree in Nursing. During her time there she met the love of her life, Thayne Pierce Keele, who always told the story of how he had to stand in line to get a chance to meet her. Thayne and Marie were married and sealed as eternal companions on August 28, 1962 in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Marie graduated from Ricks College's School of Nursing in 1963 and began her career as a Registered Nurse at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City.  She had a long career as a Registered Nurse working in many roles, including as the Head Nurse at the Orem Utah Convalescent Hospital, a labor and delivery nurse at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, a Charge Nurse at the Caribou County Memorial Hospital in Soda Springs and as the Caribou County Public Health Nurse.

Marie spent her life serving others.  She was an incredible mother, teaching her children the importance of both fun and hard work while loving them unconditionally.  She made hundreds of costumes, planned treasure hunts for every child's birthday, eagerly anticipated every sporting event or activity involving her children.  As a registered nurse, she worked tirelessly to care for others.  She truly gave of her special talents and cared for people in her own unique way, with her own unique abilities. She truly cared for her patients and her family with Christ-like love.

Marie is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served diligently in whatever capacity she was asked. Her faith in her Savior never wavered and was the foundation upon which she built her life.

Marie is survived by her devoted husband, Thayne Pierce Keele, her brother Tray (Tammy) Thomas and several brothers and sisters-in-law.  She is the cherished mother of seven children, Jeff (Elizabeth) Keele; Ric (Jennifer, Nathan) Keele ; Collette (Dana) Keele; Colleen (Mike) Jacobson; Brent (Shanna) Keele; Alan (Kim) Keele; Dave (Keri) Keele, 31 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her beloved parents, Max and Verda Thomas, her son Alan, her grandson Max, and her brothers Mark, Bill and Cliff Thomas.

The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to all of those who cared for Marie in the final months of her life at the Caribou Memorial Hospital and Living Center.
