Obituary

Longtime Caribou County resident Marilyn Swain left this life August 2, 2019 in Emmett, Idaho where she had been hospitalized.

Marilyn was born in Conda, Idaho April 26, 1935 to Chuck and Golda Giles. She was the middle child having an older brother Dave and a younger brother Jerry. She graduated from Soda Springs High School, where she participated in many activities, in 1953. After graduation Marilyn married her high school sweetheart Larry Swain. Larry and Marilyn had two sons Kevin and Cory.

Marilyn loved music and was an accomplished pianist. She played piano and organ at her church at the age of 9. After she and Larry moved to Wayan she played piano for the Grey's Lake Ward. She loved to play and listen to music. She taught herself to play the harmonica and performed at her grandson's wedding.

Marilyn was a skilled secretary. She could type 120 words a minute without making a mistake and take shorthand as fast as anyone could speak. She worked as an executive secretary and as a legal secretary. Her secretarial skills and her ability to connect with people made her an exceptional legal secretary.

Marilyn and Larry loved the outdoors and in 1974 moved full time to their property near Wayan. They commuted to work, Larry at Monsanto and Marilyn at the law office. There were some scary drives, but they rarely failed to make it to and from work. Their home was the site of many happy family gatherings and hunting trips. They loved those years living in the country.

Marilyn's greatest joy was her family. In 2001 Marilyn and Larry moved to Emmett, Idaho to be near their son Kevin, his wife Marcia, and their grandson Michael. Marilyn never missed Michael's piano recitals or baseball games. Marilyn continued to enjoy her music, her reading, and she occasionally watched television. They made many new friends in the Emmett area.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and by a son Cory. She is survived by her husband Larry, Emmett, Idaho; her son Kevin (Marcia), Meridian, Idaho; her grandson Michael (Kaitlin), Boise, Idaho; her brother Dave (Bonnie), Logan, Utah; her brother Jerry (Judy), Fairfield, Montana; and by many nieces and nephews.

Marilyn possessed great intelligence, ability, grace, and humor. She maintained those qualities to the end. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Services will be held Saturday August 17, 2019 at Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs. Friends may call between noon and 2:00 p.m. with a service beginning at 2:00. A reception and luncheon will follow at the Senior Citizen's Center.
