Obituary

Mary Lou Thirkill Campbell Lambourne, 88, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016.

She was born on October 30, 1927 to Howard Elmer and Evelyn Stucki Thirkill in Soda Springs, Idaho.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She was raised on the ranch out to 8-mile where her father raised cows and sheep. She enjoyed riding horses and riding in the horse-drawn sleigh in the winter. A favorite time was when the cousins came out to the ranch to visit, or spending time with them at Bear Lake or at her grandmother's house in Paris, Idaho.

She attended grade school in the 8-mile one-room school house, where her mother was the teacher. She graduated from 8th grade as valedictorian of the class.

She married her high school sweet-heart, Arnold Campbell on October 20, 1946. During this time Mary Lou worked at Largilliere Company Bankers. Together they had two children, Terrell and Curtis. Arnold died in a car accident after only eight years of marriage, leaving her to raise two small children with the aid of their grandparents.

Mary Lou met and married John Lambourne in 1965 and the family moved to Arizona, settling in Scottsdale. To them a daughter, MaryLou Shauna, was born.

They enjoyed many happy years together – their favorite activities being spent with family – especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary Lou loved to read, sew, crochet, knit, and quilt. She also had a green thumb in the garden. She was the best grandma ever and she loved having grandkids come to stay with her.

She and John served a mission together in the Arizona Phoenix Mission from November 1994 – November 1995. This was a highlight of her life. She loved serving and loved the missionaries.
Another way she loved serving was in the Relief Society. She said she has held every position there is in Relief Society and loved every one. Other callings she held were: YW Beehive Advisor, Sunday School Teacher, Primary Teacher, Stake Nursery Leader.

After John passed away in 2001, she continued to serve her family and others for as long as she could. Her determination, courage, strength, and faithfulness, as well as her desire to love and serve others, will never be forgotten by her family.

She is survived by three children: Terrell Ray Campbell (Kathleen), Curtis Howard Campbell (Debbi), and Marylou Sanders (Kyle), 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, a sister Jean Skinner (Dennis) and a sister-in-law Patsy Tarbet (John).

Funeral Services were held at the Scottsdale L.D.S. chapel at 2202 N. 74th St., Scottsdale, Arizona on August 13. Graveside services will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs, Idaho on Saturday, August 27 at 11 a.m. Family and friends are invited to attend.
