Max Bodily Christensen, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2012 in Soda Springs. He was 85.
Max was born June 26, 1926 in Bancroft, Idaho, the 9th of 11 children born to Harris and Robenia Bodily Christensen.
He was raised in Bancroft on the family farm working alongside his father and making lots of mischief with his brothers.
In 1945 he served in the U.S. Army during WWII stationed in the Philippines and Japan.
Max married his eternal companion, Mary Elizabeth Thornock, on June 22, 1956 in the Idaho Falls Temple. He treated her like a queen to the day he died. Together they had eight children.
Max was an electrician and worked at Monsanto for 30 years. He was a true handyman and could fix anything around the home. He enjoyed model airplanes and tinkering in his workroom. He had a quick wit and a quiet sense of humor that always kept his family laughing, even through his declining years. His silly antics produced many fond memories. He would say that his greatest achievement was his family and he loved them dearly.
Max's life was a true testament of service and love. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served a three year mission in Japan, served as Bishop for seven years, on the high council and was a dedicated home teacher. Later in life, he and Mary served missions in the Logan Temple and on Temple Square in Salt Lake City. He left a legacy to his family of abiding faith in Jesus Christ.
Max is survived by his wife, Mary of Soda Springs, ID; and three sons, Bradley and Jolie Christensen of Soda Springs, ID; David and Patty Christensen of Las Vegas, NV; Glenn and Jill Christensen of Salt Lake City, UT; and five daughters, Suzanne and Curtis Hardy of Grace, ID; Sandra and Tom Shelley of Silver City, NM; Kathy and Scott Bailey of Herriman, UT; Mary Ann and Rick Bailey of Riverton, UT; and Leiann and David Peterson of Blackfoot, ID. Also surviving are 36 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Odell Christensen and Clyde Christensen and one sister, Gayle Gardner. He was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
Services will be held on Monday, February 13, 2012 at Noon at the Soda Springs LDS Stake Center. The family will visit with friends on Sunday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home and on Monday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Stake Center prior to services.
