Obituary

Mazie Camilla Isaac Porter, 93, a longtime resident of Soda Springs, Idaho, died September 27, 2022 at Caribou Memorial Hospital in Soda Springs, ID.

Mazie was born January 10, 1929 in Redding, California to Kathleen Faye Isaac and John William Reece. She graduated from Pocatello High School and attended Idaho State University. She married Jack Wyatt Porter on August 23, 1946 in Portland, Oregon. They lived in Pocatello while Jack attended Idaho State University. They lived in Cloverdale, Oregon before settling in Soda Springs where they lived for most of their lives. Mazie lived in Soda Springs for over 65 years and recently celebrated her 90 th birthday with her family and many friends.

Through her life, Mazie contributed her energy and talents to the city and her church, as well as serving as a deacon and then pastor for the First Presbyterian Church in Soda Springs while often preaching in the churches in Malad, Preston and Montpelier. She spent countless years serving as a 4-H leader and Cub Scout Den Mother for her children.

Mazie served on the board of the Theater Guild and participated in plays and productions through her life. She also produced and wrote several plays. Mazie enjoyed reading, writing, needlework and especially cooking (her chocolate cake is legendary).

Her death brings with it the severing of her special bond with the community. She will be remembered for her kindness and caring for the residents of the town.

Mazie is survived by four children: Kathleen Elizabeth Herbert, El Cerrito, CA; John William Porter, Seattle, WA; James Douglas Porter (Kadee), Boise, ID; Thomas Martin Porter (Wendy) of Bluffdale, UT and daughter-in-law Sharon Porter of Tucson, AZ. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mazie was preceded in death by one son, Robert Arthur Porter, her spouse, Jack Wyatt Porter, and her parents.

A memorial service for Mazie will be held on Saturday October 8, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Soda Springs. There will be a reception immediately following the service to visit with family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Soda Springs Presbyterian Church.
