IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Melodee Romney
Ozburn
January 8, 1951 – February 17, 2020
Melodee Romney Ozburn passed away early Monday morning, February 17th, 2020.
She was born January 8, 1951, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Janet Featherstone Romney and William Hamlin Romney.
In 1958, Melodee (age 7) and her brother William Romney Jr. (age 5) said goodbye to Utah and moved with their parents to Santa Monica, California.
Melodee began school at William Penn Elementary in Salt Lake City, Utah, followed by Walgrove Elementary School, Mark Twain Junior High, and eventually Venice High School in Santa Monica, California. She graduated from California State, Northridge in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After graduation she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and began teaching fourth grade at Woodland Hills in West Valley, Utah.
On March 18, 1978, Melodee married Craig, the love of her life, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They moved shortly after to Soda Springs, Idaho where Craig farmed with his family. Craig and Melodee raised four children and shared 42 years together in Soda Springs.
Melodee taught Kindergarten at Thirkill Elementary in Soda Springs, Idaho for 14 years. She was passionate about teaching and taught a generation of Soda Springs children.
In the spring of 1997, Melodee was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm, which led to a massive stroke after an operation at the University of Utah medical center. She lived for 23 years after her stroke, allowing her to see all of her children graduate high school and college and spend time with her three granddaughters.
Melodee was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and attended the 4th Ward in Soda Springs for over four decades. Her greatest joy was being with her husband, who she called her angel. Melodee loved knitting hats and visiting her kids in Teton Valley, Idaho and the Portland, Oregon area. She enjoyed camping in her trailer on the farm and her annual Disneyland trips with her friends and family.
Melodee worked tirelessly every single day to become and remain self-sufficient after her stroke. She took great pride in remaining independent, strong, and happy until her last days. She would always say happiness is a choice, and she chose to live each day finding joy in the smallest of places to share with the people she loved. Melodee always had a fighting spirit and silly sense of humor which brought strength, joy, and hope to each day.
She is survived by her husband, Craig L Ozburn; brother William H. Romney Jr. (Robin Romney), children Jennifer Ozburn-Glass (Steven Glass), Jessica Ozburn Shell (Brian Shell), Melissa Ozburn, Logan Ozburn; and grandchildren Harper Elle Glass, Maya Janet Shell and Katherine Joleen Shell. Melodee is also survived by her Ozburn in-laws Mark (Cindy) Ozburn, Mary (Brian) Scoresby, Curtis (Donna) Ozburn, Dean (Janis) Ozburn. She had 18 nieces and nephews and 57 great-nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 29 at 11 a.m. at the Soda Springs Hooper LDS Chapel (281 East Hooper Ave.). Family will visit with friends on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home and on Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church prior to services.
