Obituary

Milton B. Gambles passed away peacefully in his home on June 29, 2018 with his loving family by his side. Milt was born August 7, 1930 in Downey, Idaho to George and Thelma Brim Gambles.

He was the fourth of eight children and enjoyed a happy childhood with his family. He learned the value of hard work from living on his family's farm.

After Milt graduated from Westside High School in 1948, he attended Brigham Young University for one year before being drafted into the Army in the Korean War. During this time, he met Ila Virgene Knudson from Preston.

They enjoyed dancing at the Dawnsante Dancehall in Logan and would dance without stopping from nine until midnight. On a 9-day furlough from his service in the war, Milton and Virgene were married in the Logan Utah Temple on May 14, 1951.

Once he finished his 18 months of service, he came home to work for Mountain Bell as a lineman and finished his career as the District Service Manager in Soda Springs.

Milt was a devoted husband and father. He and Virgene had four children: Stephen, Robyn, Scott, and Richard. His family was the center of his life.

He had a strong testimony of the Gospel and dedicated his life to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many callings including Bishop of the Soda Springs 2nd Ward, High Councilman, Ward Mission Leader, Logan Temple Officiator, Stake Building Scheduler for the past 14 years of his life, and Family History Specialist. He indexed thousands of names helping establish better records for thousands of people. He also loved being a dedicated home teacher and visiting with his families each month.

Throughout his life, Milt was passionate about his community. He served as mayor of Soda Springs and loved helping people. As Chairman of the Soda Springs School Board, he made decisions that positively affected many people in the town. He also served as Rotary Club President, on the Soda Springs Economic Development, and as a Gem Community Member.

On a Saturday, he could be seen cheering on the BYU Cougars, and throughout the week, he would be seen supporting his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in all of their activities. He was a staple in the crowds at Soda Springs High School sporting events. He was loved by many and will be thoroughly missed.

Milton is survived by his three children: Robyn (Chet) Hopkins, Scott (Mary) Gambles, and Richard (Michelle) Gambles. He has fifteen surviving grandchildren: David Hopkins, Mandy (Joe) Camp, Amy (Trevor) Merritt, and Brandon Hopkins; Ashley (Todd) Llewellyn, Sarah Gambles, and Cassie Gambles; Heather (Jon) Williams, Braxton Gambles, Courtney, Sierra, and Kayla Green. He also has thirteen surviving great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Kiersten, and Coy Hopkins; Katelynn, Alyssa, Presley, and Aubrey Camp; Kailey, Leah, Jaxon, and Colton Merritt; Lucy Llewellyn; Carson Williams. Surviving siblings are brother Harry (Hazel) Gambles, sisters Barbara (Hal) Luke, Lois (Bob) Hess, adopted brother Jay (Kiersten) Devashrayee, and a step-sister Kay (Larry) Young, brother-in-law Ross Childs, sisters-in-law Betty Gambles and Camille Gambles.

He was preceded in death by his wife Virgene, son Stephen, granddaughters Hailey and Heidi Gambles, his parents, brothers Theron, Phil, and Paul Gambles, and sister Marilyn Childs.
