Obituary

Nila Jo (Sneddon) Hogan, 89, was released from her anguished mortal body and returned home to her Heavenly Father as well as many other loving family members on September 19, 2020.  Nila suffered from Alzheimer's for many years.

Nila was born on July 30, 1931 to Charles Henry and Grace Evadeen Little Sneddon in Diamondville, Wyoming.  Nila was the third and youngest child born to Charles and Grace.  Her older sisters were Katherine Elizabeth Sneddon Gill and Mary Evadeen Sneddon Horsburgh.  The family lived in Diamondville until Nila was 10.

When Nila was in the third grade, her father was transferred to Conda, Idaho, where Charles was the head accountant for the Anaconda Company.  Nila attended school in Conda in a four room school house through the 8th grade, then she rode the school bus to Soda Springs High School where she graduated.

Nila was always a very outgoing person.  She had many friends and made new friends easily.  One evening, she was out on a date with her beau. When returning to the car after a movie and dinner at the Idaho Cafe, they heard some rustling in the back seat.  Upon investigation, they found a handsome young man hiding behind the seat.  He had his eye on Nila as well.  It turned out that this young man would be her Prince in Shining Armor.  On April 11, 1952, Nila married Robert Douglas "Doug" Hogan.  They were later married in the Logan, Utah Temple on July 5, 1957.

Doug and Nila were the very proud parents of three children, Lana Rae, Teresa Lynn and Todd Douglas.  Tragedy struck when Lana Rae passed away at the age of 4 from complications of a tonsillectomy.

The family lived in Conda, Idaho until 1966 when they moved into Soda Springs.  Doug worked at Monsanto and Nila had various accounting jobs in Soda Springs over the years.

When Nila was younger she would follow her father around the yard as he meticulously groomed beautiful flower beds.  Nila acquired her love for gardening from her father.  Any family or acquaintances of Nila, knew that she loved to work in her yard tending beautiful flower gardens.  After she retired from work, she took the Master Gardener Course and aced it.  This brought her a new world of different flowers and arrangements.  She would plan her next summer flower theme all winter long.  She loved to decorate her yard and house for every holiday.  Most of this was to delight her children and grandchildren. Her favorite job was to help people with flowers when she worked at the Coast to Coast Green House.

After Doug and Nila retired, they purchased a Travel Trailer. They headed to the Grand Teton Park in the summers working in the gift shops at Jenny Lake and managing the Moose Village Store in the park.  They loved the beauty of the parks.  In the fall, they headed south to enjoy the warmth.  It was not long before they became involved in managing RV Resorts in Yuma, AZ, Mesquite, NV and El Centro, CA. As her creative self, Nila became the Activities Director of Cocopah Bend RV Resort.  Every holiday that came along was planned with every detail to provide a fabulous event for the residents.  Nila was in her glory when she was involved in planning a social.

Nila has always been active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  She held many positions over the years to include Sunday School, Primary and Relief Society Teacher, President of the Primary, Cub Scout Leader. Stake Relief Society 2 nd Councilor, Ward Activity Director, and Stake Rest Home Coordinator.  She magnified all of her callings to the best of her abilities.  She had a strong love and testimony of the Gospel and for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Nila is survived by her loving dedicated husband, Doug Hogan, daughter, Teresa Lynn Hogan (Conrad) Watkins, Soda Springs and Todd (Tammy) Hogan, Alpine, Utah.  She is also survived by 12 grandkids, 19 great grandkids and 4 great great grandkids.  She adored her kids and grandkids and each of them have wonderful stories of being with their Grandma Hogan.  She always made each one of them feel special.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, her daughter Lana Rae, Grandson Conrad T. Watkins, Jr., and Nephew Dick Horsburgh.

The family would like to give their heartfelt and sincere appreciation to the entire staff of the Caribou Memorial Hospital and Living Center. Their love and care for Nila was incredible. She loved each and every one, whether she was having a good day or bad day.  Thank you for being there for her and with us at the time of her passing.
