Obituary

"Pete" Grant LaVon Peterson passed away at his home in Pocatello on December 16, 2022 at the age of 75 surrounded by family.

He was born on November 5, 1947 at the Soda Springs Hospital to Grant C Peterson and Elsie Dorothy Peck.

Pete married the love of his life and best friend, Barbara Turner on February 20, 1970 in Evanston, Wyoming.

Pete owned Pete's Ag in Grace Idaho from 1983 until he sold to Helena Chemical in June of 2008 Then he became a branch manager for Helena Chemical until he retired.

He grew up in Soda Springs at Alexander Utah Power and Light station until 1965 when he joined the Navy.  He was stationed in San Diego, then to Vietnam for 14 months.  When he returned, he was stationed in Key West Florida.  Pete came home to Soda in 1968 and started work at Utah Power and Light in Ogden, and then Salt Lake City where he worked as a test and instrument technician.  He moved back to Grace in 1975.  Pete and Barbara moved to St. George after they retired and stayed there until Pete fell ill, and they moved back to Pocatello to be close to family in 2021.

Pete attended Soda Springs High School and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

He was a former member of Grace 1 st Ward where he was a volleyball coach, and a current member of the Highland 7 th Ward in Pocatello.

Pete was a certified crop advisor, and a member of American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars.  His hobbies and interests included golf, his children, and his grandchildren, which were the highlight of his life.

Pete is a veteran of the Vietnam War in the US Navy.  He received the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Turner Peterson, a son Kim and (Emily) Peterson of Pocatello and a daughter, Tamra Peterson of Pocatello.  He is also survived by his Son-in-law, Mathew Norman of Idaho Falls, and by grandchildren Jessica Peterson, Stetson (Kiesa) Whitworth, Josh (Kayla) Peterson, Karson Hansen, Jayden (Carly) Peterson, Kimberly Peterson, Camri Peterson, and Skyler Peterson.  Pete adopted Skyler at the age of 5 to help his daughter, Tamra raise him.  Pete is also survived by bonus grandchildren, Marcus, Madison, and Abigail Lee, and Johnathon, Makendrick, and Cambria Norman; Great Grandchildren Jace and Kyndal Peterson and bonus great grandchild Olivia Boyce.  He is survived by a brother, Claude (Shauna) Peterson of Soda Springs, Carla (Wayne) Newman of Syracuse, Utah, Peggy (Randy) Cobaugh of Layton, Utah, and Brenda (Jim) Cook of Ogden, Utah.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his oldest daughter, Michelle Peterson Norman, a grandson Andrew Justin Peterson, brother, Eldon John Peterson and a sister, Dorothy Merchen Briggs.

Funeral services will be held at the Grace 1 st Ward at the Grace Stake Center on Thursday, December 22 at 12:00 pm.  The family will meet with friends from 10:00-11:30 at the church prior to services.  Burial will follow at the Grace Cemetery.
