Pete Robert Toly, 73, of Lava Hot Springs, died peacefully at home Sunday, September 13, 2009.
He was born October 15, 1935 to Victor and Matilda Toly. He graduated from Park City High School, then attended Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah on a basketball scholarship. Pete excelled in High School athletics and community sports, and was one of the first to be a Park City Ski Patrol Member.
Pete was a member of the Catholic Church. He established the Red Banjo Saloon in 1962, then Toly Explorations in 1978. He loved sports, prospecting and the outdoors.
He married Mary Lou Wheelwright August 18, 1956. They had 3 children; Scott, Roxanne & Steven. They later divorced. He married Sharon Burningham. They later divorced. He had a long relationship with his special friend Karen Stokes.
He is survived by his children, Scott (Jane)Toly, Park City, Utah; Roxanne Toly, Park City, Utah; Steven (Lisa) Toly, Lava Hot Springs, ID. He is also survived by brothers, Tony Toly, Midvale, Utah; George (Loyia) Toly , Oakhurst, California, and a sister, Ida Nuneviller, Park City, Utah, and by 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John Byer, Frank Byer, Mike Umiljenvich, and sisters Anne Houtz, Josephine Clark and Angelina Toly.
Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Friday, September 18, 2009 at 12 Noon at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, with Father Vargos as Celebrant. Burial was at the Lava Cemetery
