Obituary

Rhea Jane Griffiths Godfrey, 93, of Soda Springs, Idaho passed away on November 1, 2022, in Mesa, Arizona.

Rhea was born on June 8, 1929, in Weston, Idaho, the daughter of Jesse W. Griffiths and Bertha Olsen Griffiths. She was raised in Weston, Idaho. She loved living in a small community, participating in musical programs and softball in her youth. She loved the outdoors and would choose any chore outside over inside.

Rhea met her sweetheart, Cleston Murrie Godfrey at the baseball diamond in Clarkston, Utah and they were married on October 26, 1948, in the Logan, Utah temple. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She relished gathering them together for holiday activities, meals and reunions. She was an avid cook and her rhubarb pie was second to none. Rhea loved to sew and was an excellent seamstress.  She would often be found working in her home or garden singing and humming her favorite music. In her golden years she picked up a harmonica again and played several church hymns and other fun songs for her family at their last big reunion. She learned how to paint with oils during her winters in Arizona and painted a picture for each of her children and grandchildren.  She gathered people into her circle and had an ability to quickly make them feel welcome in her home.

Rhea was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving in many callings, her favorite being a teacher. She leaves behind a legacy of faith and devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

She is survived by four of her children: Jacquelyn (Todd) Winegar of Salt Lake City, Utah; Debra Jane (Dan) Moldenhauer of Island Park, Idaho; Cleston J. (Kristie) Godfrey of Mesa, AZ; Sheri (Chad) Christensen of Soda Springs, Idaho; daughter-in-law, Nadine Godfrey of Orem, Utah; 25 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; and her sister Loretta Taylor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Murrie; two sons, Craig Murrie and Curtis M.; two foster children, Nancy Village Center and Lyle T. Smith; her parents, Jesse W. and Bertha Griffiths; three sisters, Elayne Harvey, Kay Loosle, Bonnie Erickson; and 3 brothers, Jesse, Reed and Michael Griffiths.
