Richard William Gilbert passed away July 3, 2022 at the Caribou Memorial Center with family by his side after having a life long battle with his health.  Richard was born to Don William and Dolores Gilbert on May 22, 1949 in Soda Springs, Idaho.  Richard was the oldest child and the only son.  Richard worked side by side with his dad on the farm and was his right-hand man.  While in high school, Richard played basketball and football, and loved to play baseball with the "plant team" in the summer.  In 1967, Richard graduated Grace High School and has always been so proud to be a Red Devil Alumni.  After graduation, Richard attended Weber State University for one semester before returning back to the family farm to marry his high school sweetheart Christine Nielsen on August 24, 1968.  They were blessed with five children.  On August 4, 1998 Richard's life greatly changed when he got caught in some farm equipment and barely survived.  Following the accident, Richard went through several surgeries and endured severe pain the rest of his life.  Richard was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering on the Pittsburg Steelers, Utah Jazz, and Utah Utes, but most of all he loved cheering on his children and grandchildren at all of their sporting events.  Richard also loved to hunt and fish and was a respectful sportsman.  When Richard wasn't working on the farm, he enjoyed going Steelhead fishing in Orofino, hunting elk and deer in the fall, and then heading to Council to hunt bear in the spring.

Richard is survived by his mother Dolores Gilbert, two sisters Cindy Boughan and DeAnn Nelson, his wife Christine, and his children Travis Don Gilbert (Denise), Traca Ann Sorenson (Robert), Clint Richard Gilbert (Tonya), Cassie Marie Rigby(Wade) all of Grace, and Rebecca Simper (Justin) of Wellsville, Utah.   Richard also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, and 3 great children with 2 more on the way. Richard was proceeded in death by his father Don William Gilbert and sister Christine Toomer.

Services will be held Monday, July 11, 2022 at the Grace Idaho Stake Center at 12pm.  A visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6-8pm at the Grace Stake Center and 10-11:30am Monday prior to the service.
