IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roberta Gaye
Gunnell
January 25, 1943 – March 12, 2023
Roberta Gaye Gunnell was born on January 25, 1943 to Cleo Leon Norstrom and Roberta Belle
Harriman. Gaye passed away at home from a pulmonary embolism on March 12, 2023 after
many medical problems over the last few months. Gaye was 80 years old.
Gaye's Dad passed away in the Conda Mine when she was very young. Prior to her Dad's death,
he accidentally shot her in the head. This left her without feeling on all of the right side of her
body. In spite of all this, she never considered herself handicapped. She became a terrific artist
in oil painting and sculpting wildlife in both clay and stone. Gaye was a self-taught talent, as was
her father, who carved horses out of wood.
Gaye married Owen Gunnell after he returned to Soda Springs after serving his country in Viet
Nam. They were married on May 3, 1970 in Las Vegas. Together they raised three daughters,
Shirley Gaye, Sue Ann and Mitzi Rae. Gaye and Owen were active members of the LDS church
and were sealed for all time and eternity in the Las Vegas Temple.
Gaye is survived by her husband, Owen Gunnell, daughter Sue (Brian) Twiss of Pocatello,
daughter, Mitzi Gunnell, also of Pocatello, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and
cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, Tommy, daughter, Shirley Hadley,
brothers, Roy and Bud Norstrom, son-in-law, Randy Hadley and grandson, Joe Hadley.
Gaye was always a very kind and generous person who was very easy to like. She has always
been a chosen spirit of our Father in Heaven.
Funeral services will held on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 12:00 pm at the Hooper LDS Church. The family will meet with friends from 10:45 - 11:30 am at the church prior to services. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs.
