Obituary

Roberta Hardy Titcomb, 84, passed away at the home of her son in Grace, Idaho, on April 15, 2017. Roberta was the oldest daughter of Lister Dean and Mabel (Leavitt) Hardy, born on September 13, 1932, in Mesquite, Nevada. She was later joined by two sisters, a stepsister, and a half-brother. She learned the value of hard work in her youth and dubbed herself a tomboy. After graduating from Virgin Valley High School, where she participated in softball and basketball, she moved to California with her family. Roberta met a handsome U.S. Marine named Stanley Wyman Titcomb and became his wife on January 7, 1953, in Pico, California. Their marriage was later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple. They were the proud parents of two children: Charles (Pennie) Titcomb of Grace, Idaho, who was born while his father was stationed in Korea, and Shirley (Richard) Johnson of Fort Hall, Idaho. Roberta was blessed with nine grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. While Stan was serving in the military, the Titcomb family lived in California and Adak, Alaska. After his retirement, they relocated to Terrace, British Columbia, Canada, where Stanley's family resided. They later moved to Soda Springs, Idaho, where they lived for 13 years and then to Grace, Idaho, where Roberta lived for 24 years. Roberta spent the last 14 years of her life living in Pocatello, Idaho, with her sister. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Roberta served as a stake camp director, a Sunday school teacher, a church service missionary at the Chesterfield Historical Site, and in the primary, where she particularly enjoyed working in the nursery. She was fondly known by many of her nursery children as Grandma Berta. Roberta admired God's handiwork in nature as an avid camper, gardener, and bird watcher. She acquired many skills and talents throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed working with her hands through building and woodworking projects. She was also a talented seamstress, often sewing stuffed toys for her posterity. She was well known for her many quilts, as well as her crocheting and knitting projects. As she lost mobility later in life, she found joy in completing word search puzzles and coloring. Roberta had a special way of unconditionally loving all those who crossed her path. She remembered every birthday of each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a heart of gold and spent her life in the service of others. Her soft blue eyes and ready smile will be greatly missed! Roberta is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as her siblings: Ravenna Alexander of Willows, California; Kathy Gagon of Pocatello, Idaho; and John (Yolanda) Waite of Lake Elsnore, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lister Dean Hardy and Mable (Leavitt) Waite, her step-father, George Waite, and her husband, Stanley Wyman Titcomb. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the Grace LDS Stake Center, 404 S Main St., Grace, Idaho, with a viewing prior to the funeral from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. Interment will be in the Grace Cemetery.
