IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roderick “Bud”
Neil Lish
December 18, 1936 – January 11, 2024
On January 11, 2024, Roderick Neil Lish (Bud) passed away quietly at home in Grace Idaho. Bud was born December 18th, 1936, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Roderic Lish and Cleo Jane Jones Lish, joining his brother Jim. The family spent their time between Pocatello, Burley, and McCammon.
Bud graduated from Marsh Valley High School in 1954. He then continued his education for 1 year at the University of Idaho before transferring to Brigham Young University, Provo Utah, where he met his future wife, Judith Elaine Lawther, on the BYU Rodeo Team.
Bud and Judy started their married life on November 22, 1961, in the Mesa Arizona Temple, working and rodeoing together. They started their family and had 5 children before moving back to Idaho in 1972 where 3 more were added to the family.
Bud's love for horses drove his employment choices as he spent time working for Ralston Purina in Burley, then as the horseman instructor at Ricks College, Rexburg Idaho, before going out on his own as a horse trainer and farrier, Ririe Idaho.
The family moved to Arco, Idaho, in 1982, where Bud served as Butte County Extension Agent for a few years before falling back to his true love of training colts and shoeing horses.
Bud was a true example of integrity and honesty in all that he did. He loved the beauty of nature; he was often found looking in his well-worn bird book to identify a new bird at the feeder. He always said Idaho and Arizona had the most beautiful sunsets in the world and would roust his kids from in front of the tv to come out and look at a sunset. He instilled a love of the outdoors in many of his children. Bud was a kind and gentle man, animals sought him out for comfort and a fair chance.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Elaine.
He is survived by his spouse Judy Lish, and children: Laurie Kendrick (Jerry) Grace Idaho, Neil Lish Mackay Idaho, John Lish (Kim) Millcreek Utah, Becky Ipsen (Mark) Dingle Idaho, Scott Lish (Janet) Soda Springs Idaho, Marianne Jardine (Tony) Twin Falls Idaho, Jill Mittlestadt (Ruben) Idaho Falls Idaho, his brother James Lish Washinton DC. Bud has 14 grandchildren and soon will have 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services in Grace LDS Stake House on Thursday January 18th at 11 am. Viewing at 9:30 am. Burial will take place in Ririe Idaho where Bud will be laid to rest next to his daughter Elaine Lish. Funeral under the direction of Sims Mortuary Soda Springs Idaho
