Roma Bennett Merrill, beloved wife, mother, Grandmother and friend, of Soda Springs, returned to her heavenly home surrounded by her family.
Roma was uniquely born in Preston, Idaho, while her mother was simply visiting her "soon-to-be" aunt. She was welcomed into the loving home of Aroet and Hannah Bennett. Her siblings included Howard, Bud, Gloyd, Gwen and Delos. Two children, Genevieve (4) and Eldon (3) died as toddlers. They family lived in Mound Valley and later moved to Preston. Roma was raised on a farm.
Roma graduated from Grace High School. She met her eternal sweetheart, Gerald M. Merrill, who wooed her by romancing her with songs. They were married September 8, 1948 in the Salt Lake City Temple.
After Jerry service in the Navy, they resided in Los Angeles while he attended school. They then made their permanent home in Soda Springs.
They were blessed with three children: Lynn, Susan and Steven.
She was well known for her flower gardens that were the envy of Soda. She enjoyed handiwork, reading novel after novel, dancing, camping, golfing and outings with her family.
Her family still revels in memories of her fried chicken, homemade bread, dutch oven chicken and potatoes and the only "eatable" fruitcake around.
Roma was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in several positions and loved attending the temple.
She is survived by her children, Lynn (Linda) Merrill of Swan Valley, ID, Susan (Kim) Welch of Grace, ID, Steven (Debbie) Merrill of Pendleton, OR, 15 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, her parents and all of her siblings.
Services will be held Monday, May 1, 2017 at Noon at the Soda Springs LDS Stake Center. Family will visit with friends Monday morning 10-11:30 a.m. at the Church prior to services. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs.
