Obituary

Ronald Robert Kilpatrick was born January 28th, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to George Ronald Kilpatrick and Melva Jones. He was the oldest child in his family, with three younger sisters. He passed away peacefully, June 15, 2016, held by his loving family who ushered him into the arms of his wife Shirley, his parents, and the arms of his Savior. He dies after a short two-month struggle with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Ron graduated from West High School in 1952 where he excelled in debate. He was a gifted orator throughout his life. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Australia. While there he met his future bride Shirley Leeke. After completing his mission, he and Shirley married in the Salt Lake City temple on February 22, 1957. Ron served in the Army for the next two years. Ron and Shirley settled in Salt Lake City, began a family, and had five children together. He began his career in law enforcement as a deputy sheriff. He got his Master's degree from BYU in Public Administration of Justice. In 1973 he accepted a position at College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California, as a teacher and administrator for their Police Academy. While there he served as a bishop, high councilor, and faithful home teacher in the Eureka First Ward. He retired in 2001 and built his mountain home in Soda Springs, Idaho, where he lived until the time of his death. In April 2003 he lost his wife Shirley to cancer. In 2005, he married Diana Lawler, who loved living with him in his mountain home. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. They enjoyed gardening and serving in the church together. At the time of his death, he and Diana were serving as ordinance workers in the Logan, Utah temple, and as "ambassadors" for Deseret Industries, something Ron loved to speak of with humor. Ron loved home teaching and served faithfully in this capacity throughout his life. He and Diana found great fulfillment serving together as missionaries in the Addiction Recovery Program and at the Caribou County Jail. Ron had a beautiful tenor voice; he loved to sing in his church choir and always arrived early every week to practice. Ron is survived by his wife, Diana, and his five children, Mark (DeAnn), Layne (Angie), Sherrie (Keith) Van Orden, Rhonda (Doug) Hancock, Reed (Dan), and his step-son Mike (Kristine) Lawler, 17 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three younger sisters Carol (Jerry) Proctor, Glenda Seelos, and Janet Fitzgerald. His 95-year-old aunt, Afton Wellington, visited him the day before his departure and her visit brought him great comfort. Services will be held at 2:00 PM at the Bailey Creek LDS Church (361 S. 3rd E.) in Soda Springs on Thursday, June 23, with a viewing from noon until 1:30. A private interment will be held at the Lake Hills Cemetery in Sandy, Utah on Friday June 24th at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the LDS Patron Assistance Fund. Listen to service
