Obituary

Ronald W Nielsen, 69, passed away Monday Aug. 4, 2014. He was born Sept 3, 1944 in Preston, Idaho to Victor Kofoed and Donna Bodily Nielsen. He moved to Emmett at the age of 5 and lived there throughout his youth. Ron married Janice Thomas on Feb. 3, 1964 and they celebrated 50 years of marriage together. They were sealed in the Logan Temple on Aug. 16, 1989. They are the parents of 3 children. They moved to Soda Springs in 1966 to work at Monsanto. Ron also spent time working on the Alaska Pipeline, at Paul Roberts Machine Shop, at FMC and for 20 years as Co-Owner of Heritage Safe Company with his son Troy. Ron was a master welder and mechanic and could create and build anything. As an artisan, he spent many hours designing and building gadgets and useful things. He was talented at painting and had a vast knowledge of the world and was an avid learner. Ron enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting, 4-wheeling, travelling, building and flying model airplanes and spending time with his family. Ron was a tease to his grandchildren. He was a patriot and had a great love of his country and the Constitution of the United States of America. Ron was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Ward Clerk, Nursing Home Coordinator and his favorite, a nursery leader. Ron is survived by his wife, Jan, and their three children: Troy Nielsen (Brenda) of Soda Springs, Idaho; Teresa Norton (Brian) of Inkom, Idaho; and Tammie Ogden (Dee) of Idaho City, Idaho. They have 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Jean Spackman, Soda Springs, Id; brother Kimber (Carol) Nielsen, Emmett, Id; in-laws Ronald & Elaine Thomas, Donald & Kathy Thomas, Shirley & Edgar Youngstrom all of Emmett, Id. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Nielsen and sister Marion Thomas. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday Aug. 9, 2014 at Noon at the Soda Springs 5th Ward Chapel (361 S 3rd E) in Soda Springs. A Viewing will be Friday Aug. 8 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Sims Funeral Home and on Saturday from 10:00-11:30 am at the church. Listen to service:
