Obituary

Russell H. Crouse, 92, Soda Springs, Idaho, passed away, Sunday, January 21, 2018 with his daughters by his side.

Russ was born June 11, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Luella Smith Crouse and Russell H. Crouse Sr.

Russ joined the Navy at the age of 17 serving in the South Pacific during WWII. After the end of the War, Russ returned to Utah to obtain his High School Diploma, and then continued his education at the University of Utah in the School of Mines. Russ graduated from the U of U in 1951 with a BS in Mining Engineering. Russ was recognized by the University of Utah with an honorary MS Mining Engineering degree in 1974. Russ was extremely proud of his P.E. designation.

Shortly after completing his degree, he moved to Soda Springs where he was employed by Monsanto Co. After 15 years at Monsanto, he became the Plant Manager. During his employment at Monsanto he met a young good looking girl by the name of Joelene Bruce and they were married in 1957 and continued to make their home in Soda Springs.

In 1976 Russ and his family moved to Fernie, B.C. Canada where Russ was employed by Crows Nest Industries as Vice President of Mining. After Shell Canada purchased Crows Nest, Russ and family moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1979.

Russ semi retired in 1983 and returned to the good ol US of A, settling in Salt Lake City, where he started a Mine Management Consultant Business, until he retired in 1990. Throughout his career he travelled the world, Japan, South Africa, all of Europe and many other places.

In addition to his technical achievements he has served as an area Vice President of the Idaho State Chamber of Commerce and a member of the board of directors of the Idaho Mining Association. Russ was also a member of the Western Governors Mining Advisory Council, the Idaho State University Business Advisory Council, the University of Idaho's Council on Economic Education and the Bureau of Land Management Idaho State Advisory Board for 1974.

Russ fully retired in 1990 and Russ and Joelene continued to make their home in Salt Lake City. Joelene passed away in 2006 and Russ moved back to Soda Springs in 2015.

Russ is survived by his 2 daughters, Toni & Brent Cisco of Grasmere, B.C. and Lisa and Dan Wilde, Soda Springs. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Jason Russell Wilde (Nikita) and Colter Dan Wilde (Tiffany), Soda Springs and Allison Joelene Cisco (Jeremy Wilkes), Sooke, B.C. and Scott Carroll Cisco (Emily), Chestermere, Alberta. He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren. Russ is also survived by the son he always wanted, Shawn Athay, Appleton, Wisconsin.

Russ was preceded in death by his wife Joelene, a sister, Eloise Kauffroth and his parents.

Services will be held, Friday, January 26, at noon at the Baily Creek LDS church. Family will meet with friends, Thursday evening from 7-8 pm at Sims funeral home Soda Springs, and on Friday morning 11-11:30 a.m at the church, prior to services. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs.
