Salvador "Sal" Samuel Mascareñas Jr., 69; of Soda Springs passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Caribou Memorial Hospital in Soda Springs.
Sal was born February 15, 1940 in Alamosa, CO the son of Salvador "Salvi" Samuel and Estephanita "Stella" Garcia Mascareñas.
He graduated from Chaffey High School in Ontario, CA and later Chaffey College in Cucamunga, CA.
He moved between Pueblo, CO, Alamosa, CO, and Gooding, ID between 1940 and 1955. He moved to Ontario, CA in 1955 and then moved to Pocatello, ID in 1971. Moved to Soda Springs, ID in 1973 and has been a resident there since then.
Sal married Kathleen Irene Tangen, September 1960 in Ontario CA. They were later divorced.
Sal married Veda Mildred Swain on December 16, 1974 in Las Vegas, NV.
He is a 43 year member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
He was a strong supporter of the Jobs Daughters and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Sal enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snow machining and being with his family.
He is survived by his wife Veda, and one son and four daughters, Sal and Carol Mascareñas III of Idaho Falls, ID; Stephanie Mascareñas of Pocatello, ID; Kristine and Brad Putnam of Texarkana, TX; Stephanie and Dan Jacobs of Houlton, ME; Michelle and Jason Harris of Soda Springs, ID. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and one brother William Mascareñas. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Carol, Robert and Salvador.
Services werevheld on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the Soda Springs Presbyterian Church at Noon. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs.
The family suggests donations be made to the Shriners Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT. or the American Cancer Society.
