IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Scott G.
Shuler
May 2, 1951 – May 11, 2020
Scott G. Shuler, much loved father, grandfather, brother, all-around good guy and friend to all, walked his last ridge to his heavenly home surrounded by his loving family and friends on Monday, May 11, 2020. We rejoice in the knowledge of all of us being together again.
Scott was the second child born into the family of Don H. and Abbie LaRue Shuler in Soda Springs, Idaho on May 2, 1951. He had many fond memories growing up with his older brother and two younger sisters. He learned the principles of hard work from his parents who still made time for fun and memories with the family. He often told stories of his growing up years. . .playing football, riding and racing snowmobiles, fishing, camping, and hunting. Scott attended Soda Springs schools and graduated from Soda Springs High School in 1969. Scott played football his freshman year at Boise State, transferred to the College of Southern Idaho, and graduated from Idaho State University in 1972 with an associate degree in merchandising.
From 1976 to 1996 Scott worked at Shuler Brothers John Deere dealership with his dad and brother. From 1996 to 2015 he worked for Caribou County with the Road and Bridge department. During Scott's time with Caribou County he was promoted to the Weed Superintendent or as he said, "Official Weed Wacker".
Scott was an avid member of Caribou Field Archers, Mule Deer Foundation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the NRA, and Ducks Unlimited. He also volunteered for the Caribou County Search and Rescue team for many years.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as second counselor in the bishopric, Sunday School teacher, Building Coordinator, and Nursery Leader. He loved the little kids, teaching them and as Scott said, "snack time". Scott had a strong testimony of the gospel and made his family the center of his life.
Scott married Pamela Steffensen in 1976 and they later divorced. They had three children, Trista Shuler Thermen (Jason), Winslow, AZ; Christopher Scott Shuler (Mandi), Pocatello, ID; Marissa Shuler Holverson (Joel), Pocatello, ID.
He absolutely loved his grandchildren Joshua Thermen, Scott Thermen, Adelynn Shuler, Maylee Shuler, Braxton Holverson, Cade Holverson and Waylyn Holverson. Scott was actively involved in his family's life. He thoroughly enjoyed attending their events and activities. In his later years he loved watching his son, Chris, coach the Lady Diamondbacks basketball team. He was the Century Diamondback's "superfan".
Scott loved John Deere, farming, the outdoors, and people. He fulfilled a dream of hunting and fishing in Alaska, an adventure of a lifetime.
Heaven welcomed Scott. We all feel his loss immensely and we will continue to do so in the days and years to come. He was a guy with a gregarious laugh and sense of humor. He had the knack to make you feel "at home". He was a friend and mentor to everyone. He faced his challenges in life, particularly in the last couple years with faith and courage. We can only imagine the heavenly reunion with family and friends and a couple of much-loved black labs.
Scott leaves behind his older brother; Craig (Soda Springs, ID), sisters; Jyl (Cedar City, UT) and Joddee, brother-in-law; Mark (Casper, WY), and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held for Scott Saturday, May 16, 11:00am at the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs, ID. We ask, during this time, you respect the social distancing guidelines.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity of your choice in Scott's name.
