Sondra June Simpson Schwulst

Sondra June Simpson Schwulst, 89, passed away August 10, 2026 in Soda Springs, ID. Sondra was born September 29, 1936 in Dodgeville, WI. She was the eldest of five girls born to Fred Ross and Bernadine June Myers Simpson.

Sondra graduated from high school in Monroe, WI. She earned her Bachelor’s of Art in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1958. While attending college she met her husband, Russell Schwulst of Hartford, WI. Sondra later earned a Master’s of Art in Education from Adams State College in Alamosa, CO. Sondra enjoyed teaching in the public schools for nearly five decades in Wisconsin, California, Colorado and Idaho. She also taught piano and guitar lessons. She loved music and continued learning other instruments throughout her life. She was also heavily involved in community theater and musicals in Monte Vista, CO and Soda Springs, ID where she played piano as well as acting a part in productions like Brigadoon, The Music Man, and Fiddler On The Roof, just to name a few.

Along with a deep love of her family she also enjoyed skiing, horseback riding, hiking, camping, fishing, gardening, and quilting.

Sondra is survived by her children Joette (Kerry) Pepper, Boise ID and Amy (Brent) Sullivan, Rathdrum, ID and her grandchildren Dr. Kyla (Justin Ego) Pepper, Colbert (Stephanie) Pepper, Kyle (Ashton) Sullivan, Katelyn (Adam) Vankeuren, Kalan (Shae) Sullivan, Chelsea (Cy) Merrill, Kendra Schwulst and Allyson Schwulst and ten great grandchildren and one sister, Sherry Sue Shinkle, Greeley, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Russell, her son David (Sheila) Schwulst, Soda Springs, ID, and three sisters.

Sondra was much loved by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her kindness, her spirit, her energy, and her amazing sense of humor.

No services are scheduled to take place at this time. The family will take Sondra back to Wisconsin for her burial next to Russell.
