Stanton George Rasmussen, 73; of Grace passed away Monday, January 16, 2012 in Salt Lake City at the University Hospital.
Stanton was born on February 7, 1938 in Preston, Idaho the son of Woodrow I. and Carolyn Frey Rasmussen.
He grew up in Mink Creek, ID. and graduated from Preston High School. He then served in the Navy where he served on the U.S.S. Shang-ri-la for two years and the remaining two years he was stationed in Guam.
Following the service he married Karla K Dobson on October 30, 1959 in Richmond, UT. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was a High Priest in the Grace 2nd Ward.
Stanton loved the outdoors. He was active in hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling and boating. He loved walking his dogs and feeding the birds. He was an avid gardener and loved his yard work. He was a self taught craftsman in things like welding, woodworking and electronics.
He always looked for opportunities to help others and share his talents and projects with them. He always worked hard and took pride in doing a job well and teaching others. He will always be remembered for his witty humor and compassion for others. It was obvious that Karla, his wife; was his best friend with the rest of his family a close second. He showed an overwhelming love for all.
Stanton is survived by his wife Karla of Grace, ID; and one son and two daughters; Kenneth K. and Meloney Rasmussen of Grace, ID; Carol Lynn Tanons of Boise, ID; Jacelyn and Scott Anderson of Boise, ID. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, a brother Craig and Ann Rasmussen of Los Alimos, NM; and three sisters Lenore and Burt Robbins of Centerville, UT; Laura Jean Frey of Lewiston, UT; Dearwyn and Don Woodbury of Kaysville, UT. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Tara, a brother Woodrow and his parents.
Services will be held on Monday, January 23, 2012 at Noon at the Grace LDS Stake Center. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home and on Monday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Stake Center prior to services. Burial will be in the Grace Cemetery.
