Susie Lillian Hirschi, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Caribou Memorial Living Center in Soda Springs, Idaho.
Susie was born on February 19, 1922 in Geneva, Idaho to Samuel and Nellie Widmer. She graduated from Geneva High School in 1940. She married Daniel Hirschi on January 2, 1942 in Paris, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Utah temple. They later moved to Thatcher, Idaho where they lived for 39 years. Daniel passed away in July 1998.
Susie had a strong work ethic and worked diligently to accomplish any task that was thrown her way. She worked as a seasonal potato worker for local potato farmers in Grace, Idaho and then worked for Lamb Weston in American Falls, Idaho for 12 years. She also enjoyed being a homemaker while raising four children.
Susie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints holding various callings including Sunday School teacher, Primary president, Primary teacher, Relief Society magazine representative, and a Visiting Teacher. She also enjoyed attending the temple as often as possible.
Susie was a talented gardener and spent much of her time tending to many varieties of vegetables and flowers in her large garden. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, listening to music, watching Jazz basketball games, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolee (Roger) Empey of Soda Springs, Idaho; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Hirschi, of Rigby, Idaho; a son-in-law, Paul Robinson, of Pocatello, Idaho; and 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two of her brothers, Vernon Widmer of Nyssa, Oregon and Bruce Widmer of American Fork, Utah.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Hirschi; one son, LaVar Hirschi; two daughters, MarJean Harrison and ElDene Robinson; one son-in-law, Kenneth Harrison; her parents, Samuel and Nellie Widmer; three sisters, Mabel Fowers, Martha Hulse, and Violet Porter; one brother, Merrill Widmer; one granddaughter and two grandsons.
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs, Idaho from 7pm-8pm and on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 9:30am-10:30am at the Grace Idaho Stake Center. Funeral services will be held at the Grace Idaho Stake Center on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11am with interment to follow at the Thatcher Idaho cemetery.
