Obituary

Thelma Briggs Ladner passed away in Soda Springs ID on Saturday, September 28 from complications related to stroke.

She was born January 12, 1929 to Harold and Grace Briggs in New Bedford, MA. Growing up in Marion MA with 9 siblings, Thelma demonstrated substantial talent in sewing & quilting and was an avid reader. Soon after graduating from high school, she married Henderson (Henny) Ladner on August 26, 1951, and together they had three children – Gary in 1955, Robert in 1957 and Kevin in 1962.

Thelma greatly enjoyed reading, solving puzzles and playing board games with the boys – interests she would share again with her grandchildren later in life.

Sadly, tragedy struck the small family when Henderson passed away in March of 1972. Thelma never remarried, and continued raising her family alone with compassion, strength and valor. 1978 brought both great joy and sadness to her life, with the birth of her first grandson Daniel and the passing of the oldest son Gary. In 1983, Thelma left her long-term job as the Marion County country clerk and moved out west to Grace ID to live closer to Robert, Kevin and the grandchildren. She was blessed with a second grandson, Jason, in 1984.

Thelma impressed everyone she met with her kindness and love. Truly a gentle soul, she never spoke harshly or wished ill will on anyone. She will be dearly missed by both her family and the community.

A memorial service will be held at the Grace LDS Church on Thursday, October 3 at 7:30 PM.
