Velma was born in Paris, Idaho on September 16, 1919 to Franklin Ralph Lewis and Martha Lucy Kaufman. Velma loved music. Family camping and Christmas gatherings have gone on for over forty years now. She traveled to Hawaii, the Holy Land, Greece, Crete, Turkey, Switzerland, France, Austria and all over the Western States. Velma was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -Day Saints.
