Obituary

Verland Frank Moore, 88, of Soda Springs passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Caribou Memorial Hospital.

Verland was born to Albert Ray and Emma (Mockli) Moore in Conda, Idaho on December 4, 1928, the oldest of 3 children.

He married Arlene Sorensen in Soda Springs on January 24, 1951. Together they had 2 boys, Valdean and Kirk. He lived most of his life ink Soda Springs. After they retired they spent the winter months in Yuma AZ.

He enlisted in the US Army January 17, 1949 (RA), and was discharged from the Army Reserves January 15, 1954.

He worked for Caribou County Road and Bridge, Union Pacific Railroad and retired from Monsanto Co.

Verland loved to be outdoors. He loved working with wood, whether it was building the house he's lived in since 1954, to the boat kits he put together in the garage. Then helped build the ski cabin up Trail Canyon where he & a lot of friends cleared a small hill for a rope tow powered by a grain truck where he taught a lot of the children in Soda Springs how to ski. He was also a member of the Caribou Archery Club in the 1950's and helped with the archery range up Trail Canyon. He enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, hunting and camping at Diamond Creek, the Blackfoot and Palisades reservoirs. His favorite time of year was the September archery hunt, which started his dutch oven cooking & bicycling, (he used the bicycle to get in shape for the elk hunt). While in Arizona during the winter of 2007-08 Verland rode his bicycle 2008 miles in 6 months at the age of 80. He was a great neighbor to all of those around him.

He is survived by his wife of 66 plus years, 2 sons Valdean (Kena Ann) of Soda Springs and Kirk (Dianna) of Blackfoot, 4 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren, a sister Ilene Horsley, a brother in law, Stan Sorensen, a sister in law Gwen Murray, an aunt Ida Mockli Jorgenson and many cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Emma Moore, his wife's parents, Niels and Grace Sorensen, a brother Elden Ray Moore, a brother in law William "Bill" H. Herbert Horsley, a sister in law Jeannie M. (Zaccardi) Sorensen, a sister in law Gladys (Sorensen) Hansen and brother in law Don Hansen.

Per Verland's wishes he was cremated and no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriner Children's Hospital.
