Obituary

Vernon John Soderman was born November 7, 1934 at American Falls, Idaho to John Soderman and Martha Huse.

Vern had a ruff beginning having cut himself bad on a broken saltshaker.  He lost a lot of blood and had to learn how to walk and talk all over again.  Then a few years later he came down with scarlet fever.  Another setback, but Vern was a tuff kid.  When he was five, he would follow his dad around.  Sometimes that meant walking around and around while his dad plowed a field which he was getting ready to plant.  He learned what a shovel was for by the time he was six.  Wanting to help clean ditches to get water to the hay fields.  Everything John did, Vern wanted to do.  Vern had to spend his high school years living in Soda Springs with his grandfather Ave.   come spring he was more than happy to get back to the ranch and ride horses again.  Vern graduated with top honors from high school, but had no interest to go to college.

Vern married Phyllis Baker from Wayan.  A son was born to this union, Thomas John.  They later divorced.

Vern had a God given talent when it came to starting colts.  His favorite time was when he was on a colt and working cows.  He also trained roping horses which took him to many a pay window at rodeos near and far.  His dream was to one day go professionally, but his dad and the ranch said no.

Vern met a horse crazy girl by the name of Ulla Meyerin at the local rodeos in Jackson, Wyoming.  They were married November 12, 1971.  Together they ran the ranch for many years till the cold winters were hard on them both.  After selling their cows they ended up working on a ranch for many winters.  In 2007 life took another turn as Vern came down with West Nile which almost took his life.  He fought back hard and was once again able to get back on a horse.  The years took its toll and on September 20, 2021 Vern went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and on sister, Joan (Bob) Somsen.  He is survived by his wife of almost fifty years Ulla, a son T.J, and one sister Shirley (Allen) Rolfson of Washington, State, one niece and one nephew and several cousins and two grandchildren.
