Mrs. Evelyn Virginia Ruger slipped quietly away on May 29,2015, after a lingering illness. Mrs. Ruger was a resident of Bancroft, Idaho for over seventy years. She was born March 3, 1924, to Harold Burneil and Mary Evelyn Donovan Hayes in Bliss, Idaho. As a child see lived in several places following her father's work on the Union Pacific Railroad. Mrs. Ruger moved to California in the middle of third grade, but returned to Bancroft just before her junior year of high school. There she met the love of her life, Charles Eugene Ruger. They were married May 16, 1942 just days after she graduated from high school.
She worked for the United States Post Office serving first as a postal clerk and eventually as a rural route carrier after the death of her husband in December of 1975. Virginia was an avid card player making sure all of her children and her grandchildren could play Canasta. She was a member of the Bancroft pinochle club for over fifty years, and a day did not go by that she did not do the daily crossword puzzle or find time to read a good book. She was a charter member of the Bancroft American Legion Auxiliary and helped pave the way for many North Gem High School girls to attend Girl State. Virginia was a beautiful seamstress and taught many young girls the art of sewing during her tenure as a 4-H leader. She loved all animals.
Mrs. Ruger is survived by her two daughters, Kimette (Michael) Johnson and Roxie (Michael) Holsten. Ten grandchildren: Chris (Serena), Loren, Andrew (Stefanie) Johnson, Megan (Matt) Kroutil, Mandi (Devin) Lonergan, Tony, Tye (Angela), Dustin (Kaitlin), Rick (Laura), and Tracy Holsten. She also leaves behind fifteen great grandchildren, and a loving niece, Darlene (Wilford) Delbridge as well as several other members of her extended family. Her husband Gene, her sister, Haroldene Knowles, and her nephew John Burneil Johnson preceded her in death.
Services are under the direction of Sims Funeral Home, Soda Springs and will be held at the Bancroft LDS Chapel on Thursday. June 4. Viewing will be held from 10A.M. to 11A.M. with services immediately following. Burial will be in the Bancroft cemetery.
