Soda Springs, ID - Virginia (Virgie or Ginni) Solum Wood, 93, passed away October 30, 2014 at the Caribou Memorial Living Center. Virgie was born to Carl and Myrtle Solum, May 6, 1921 in New Auburn, Wisconsin. At the age of 4, the family moved to Georgetown, Idaho where Virgie was raised and spent most of her life. Virgie attended school in Georgetown and graduated from the old Georgetown High School in 1939. Soon she met a very handsome man from Auburn, Wyoming named Tom Wood. They fell in love and went to Paris, Idaho on October 30, 1940 to get married. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Three sons were born to this union, Lonnie Gerald, Rodney Blair, and Dean L. Tom and Virgie spent a great life together. Tom worked various places but they always returned to Georgetown. Tom and his brother-in-law, Doniell Jensen, started a car dealership and Tom and Virgie moved to Montpelier. The boys were teens at this point. Virgie had a huge garden at their home with row after row of raspberries. She had a passion to pick raspberries. They stayed in Montpelier for a while where Virgie worked at J.C. Penny & Co. to help put her boys through missions. When Tom's brother-in-law was killed, they sold the business and Tom and another man built a beautiful log home in Georgetown. About that time, they started going to San Carlos, Mexico every winter. They had a lovely home there and had many family members come to visit. They loved to dance and travel. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held various callings over the years. She was baptized with her mother, three sisters, and three nieces on the same day. She also belonged to War Mothers and Daughter of the Utah Pioneers. She loved being with all of her family, cousins, children, grandchildren, sisters and nieces. She loved family parties, camping trips, reunions and, especially, Christmas. Virgie is survived by her sons and their wives: Lonnie G. (Cheryl) Wood of Wasilla, Alaska; Rodney B. (Patti) Wood of Soda Springs, Idaho; and Dean L (Teddy) Wood of Sandy, Utah; and six grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Virgie was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, her parents, one great granddaughter, Mylei Wood, daughter-in-law, Patti Stoddard Wood, three brothers, Welby, Russel, and Edwin, and five sisters, Doris Hoff, Vivian Hayes, Rose Wilde, Ruby Gaskins, and Francis Jensen. Funeral services will be held in Georgetown, Idaho at the LDS Chapel on Friday, November 7, 2014 at 1:00 pm with viewing from 11:30 am -12:30 pm. Internment will be in the Georgetown Cemetery.
