IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virijean Stoor
Somsen
August 11, 1933 – November 25, 2021
Our beloved Virijean Stoor Somsen passed away at Edgewood Assisted Living in Soda Springs, Idaho in the early evening on November 25, 2021.
She was born August 11, 1933 at her parent's home in Wayan, Idaho, located at the south end of the Grays Lake Valley, to Emil and Alice Bienz Stoor. She had been the younger sister of Don, and the big sister to Darlene, Ila Rae and Ralph.
She had lived in Wayan for 80 years and in the same home for 62 years. She married Leith Somsen and he had built the home for them prior to their marriage on December 9, 1951. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple.
She spent 4 years of high school in Soda Springs, where she graduated. The family would move in the Fall to attend school, but as soon as school was over, they were anxious to get back to their home in Wayan. Her and Dad also spent 30 plus years during calving season in Raft River, Idaho. For their last 12 years together, they moved to Soda during the winter months. Mom resided at Edgewood for the last 8 years.
She was busy being a farmer/rancher wife and homemaker, raising her children, maintaining a home and cooking for hay crews and those that helped with the cattle. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano, sewing, crocheting and doing embroidery, creating many beautiful pieces.
Mom loved living in Grays Lake and enjoyed family and friends that lived there, along with those that came to visit. Her home was a gathering place for all and the coffee pot was always on. She welcomed you to her home, where you were sure to enjoy the company, the love and laughter, a meal, her cookies, cakes or pies.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She had several callings, with serving in Primary as her favorite.
Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed their visits and time together.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie (Jerry) Lakey of Soda, and two sons, Steve (Louise) of Wayan, Randy (Cherese) of Rexburg and Wayan. She was Grandma to 8 grandchildren, Derek (Lisa) Lakey, Hayley (Steven) Meyers, Cody (Sarah) Somsen, Angie (Paul) Mendenhall, Nathan (Maria) Somsen, Justin (Christy) Somsen, Kyle (Madi) Somsen and Brandon (Heather) Somsen. She has 19 great-grandchildren, and 5 (with one on the way) great-great grandchildren. She is survived, also, by sisters Darlene Davis and Ila Rae Van Vleet, sisters-in-law, Linda (Dave) Kinghorn and Dianne Somsen. She was preceded in death by her husband Leith, parents, Emil and Alice, brothers Don and Ralph, and in-laws Garrett and Mattie Somsen.
