William Henry (Hank) Brown, 85, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at the Caribou Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. He had suffered a sudden stroke just two days before.
Hank was born October 30, 1932 to Arthur Louis Brown and Opal Grace John, at home in Goshen, Idaho. He was the third of six children. His parents and brothers, Robert Kay and Dean LaVon preceded him in death, and he always spoke of them with great respect. His sisters Norma Scott (Irvin, deceased), Fay Howell (Max), and Sharon Ormond (Bill) survive him. The family was close and loving, working through the tough years of the Depression and World War II, building and strengthening one another.
Hank served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict in post-war Germany, where he was a cook. After leaving the Service, he came back to Bingham County where he met the beautiful Mary Ann Mitchell. They courted, despite comments from folks that "she was dating one of those wild Brown boys!", and were married on July 12, 1958. They came to Soda Springs and moved into the home Hank built for them on Hooper Avenue, where they lived their entire lives together.
Hank and Mary are the parents of Nancy (Kevin) Keller, Alan (Jeanie Grover) Brown, Rachel (Shawn) Crowley, and Janine (Nathan) Bleiweiss. They have 16 grandchildren and a first great-grandchild on the way. Hank is pleased to be the first in the family to meet him!
Hank and Mary were quiet, unassuming fixtures in the community. He worked at the Central Farmers plant in Georgetown Canyon, then at Kerr Mcgee. During this time, he was building his dream business as a beekeeper. He kept bees in Southeast Idaho and California, working (playing?) full-time until age 84. His son Alan and family continue in his stead, producing the finest clover honey in the world.
Hank, Mary, and their children were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple in 1967. Hank served in many Church callings and was a faithful home teacher. He was so proud of Alan and the grandchildren who served missions for the Church. He was a man of gratitude. When he offered prayers over meals, Thanksgiving dinner, or other family events, his expressions of thanks were moving, revealing to us all the love of family and God he had.
Hank's funeral will be Saturday, January 6, 11 AM, at the Hooper Avenue meetinghouse in Soda Springs. Friends may call at Sims Funeral Home Friday January 5 from 7 - 8 PM, and Saturday morning at the Church from 9:30 till 10:45. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.
Flowers are lovely, and the bees get nectar from them, but please donate to the Soda Springs Public Library in Hank's name.
